Abstract

1450723 Automatic circuit breakers AIRPAX ELECTRONICS Inc 8 Oct 1973 46948/73 Heading H1N A two-part phenolic housing 12 for an electromagnetic or thermal type circuit breaker is formed with a forward facing boss 20 with an opening through which the circuit breaker operating handle 22 extends, the handle being dust sealed in relation to the housing by means of a silicone rubber gasket 42 sandwiched between rigid supports 40, 44 the edges of which are located in a groove within the boss 20. An aperture 56 in the upper facing of the housing 12 communicates with an arcing chamber 58 and is covered by a movable resilient plastics flap 50 having a turned-over end 54 which is engaged within a groove 62 in a resiliently hinged manner so that the flap 50 normally rests in a closed position over the aperture 56 to prevent the entry of contaminants but is movable in response to a rise in pressure within the circuit breaker housing to release such pressure and any exhaust gases, &c. to atmosphere. Specification 1,450,724 is for a similar circuit breaker suitable for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere.
