Abstract

1450582 Stringed instruments N WOOD 18 Sept 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 43946/73 Heading G5J The fingerboard 2 of a fretted stringed instrument has transverse rectangular or dovetail shaped, grooves 3 for receiving respective stainless steel inserts. Each insert forms a force fit in its groove but it may be further secured by adhesive. The height of the insert may be adjusted by grinding the base 5. On the opposite side of the fingerboard is a groove (not shown) for receiving a bar which is stressed so as to oppose that stress imparted to the fingerboard by the tension in the strings.
