Abstract

Trisazo dyes are obtained by coupling a diazosulphonic acid of the benzene or naphthalene series with a middle component, rediazotizing and coupling with a -naphthylamine or its 6- or 7-sulphonic acids, again diazotizing and coupling with 2 : 8 : 6-aminonaphthol sulphonic acid in alkaline solution. According to examples, the following components are employed:-metanilic acid, a -naphthylamine, 1-naphthylamine-6- or -7-sulphonic acid or a mixture thereof, and 2 : 8 : 6-acid; 2-naphthylamine-4 : 8-disulphonic acid, 3-amino-4-cresol methylether, 1-naphthylamine -6- or -7- sulphonic acid, and 2 : 8 : 6-acid; 2-naphthylamine-4 : 8-disulphonic acid, 1-naphthylamine-6- or -7-sulphonic acid, 1-naphthylamine -6- or -7- sulphonic acid, and 2 : 8 : 6-acid. The products dye cotton, and may be diazotized on the fibre and developed, e.g. with b -naphthol or m-toluylenediamine, giving grey shades.
