Abstract

1450285 Pyrolysing ethylene polymers HENRY MOUTRAY CO Ltd 17 Jan 1975 [19 Jan 1974] 02642/74 Heading C3P Wax materials are prepared by pyrolysing ethylene polymers at temperatures above 350‹ C. in an atmosphere of steam to produce soft greases, which are carried off in the steam, and waxes. The ethylene polymers may be waste materials, e.g. discarded packaging. The reactor may be charged with wax previously produced, and the ethylene polymers introduced therein so that pyrolysis takes place in a liquid wax phase. The waxes may be used in polishes and paper-coating compositions, and the greases as petrolatum substitutes. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described and illustrated.
