Abstract

Particles of free-flowing thermoplastic or elastomeric base material are caused to undergo a high-energy movement. Before or during this movement, the silane or the silane compound and, as additives, peroxides as graft initiators are added in liquid form. The temperature is kept so high, below the crystallite melting range, that all or some of the silane or silane compound and the additives penetrate into the surface of the base material for homogeneous distribution therein. The grafting of the silane or silane compound distributed in the base material onto the molecules of the base material is carried out by thermal treatment. In order to initiate the crosslinking, the mixture is subjected to the action of water.
