1450112 Centrifugal filter HEIN LEHMANN AG 1 Oct 1973 [6 June 1973] 45720/73 Heading B1D Massecuite is delivered to frusto-conical centrifugal filter basket 4 via a slide valve (1), not shown, a pipe 2 and an accelerator 3 which comprises concentric rings 14, 15 which mix the massecuite with water and/or steam and accelerate the mixture without breaking sugar crystals. The water and/or steam enters the accelerator partly through valve (1), partly from ring nozzle 7. 8. which forms a water film on the wall of pipe 2 and partly through annular duct 9 encircling pipe 2 (Fig. 1, not shown). The latter may. be replaced by various nozzle means (Fig. 3, not shown). Plate 12 may be vertically adjustable. Rings 14, 15 are removable and replaceable by others (Fig. 2. not shown). Spacing rods 13 may be replaced by a rod cage or perforate sleeve (Fig. 5, not shown). To prevent air induction into basket 4, pipe 2 could join valve (1) directly. Accummulation of massecuite in accelerator 3 is monitored by tube 28, which may be supplied at 32 with hot air whose rising pressure if end 28' is closed displaces water in vessel 29 to close float switch 31, which actuates an alarm or closes valve (1) directly. Alternatively (Fig. 1b, not shown), the air supply is omitted, closure of end 28' cutting off the suction generated by the basket rotation from vessel 29 to displace water similarly therein.
