Abstract

1393028 Aerating and circulating lake water ATLAS COPCO AB 30 May 1972 [1 June 1971 28 Jan 1972] 25300/72 Heading B1C In a method and apparatus for aerating the lower, colder layer of a body of water without de-stratifying it, a bell-shaped housing 12, Fig. 2 is arranged over the air injection means and air collected therein is returned to the surface through a conduit 15, a valve 14 being provided to build up air pressure and prevent water entering the conduit. There may be a draft tube 11 to provide circulation in the lower layer. In an embodiment, Fig. 3, the bell 22 forms the upper part of a housing 21 supported by floats 40, 41 and moored to an anchor 44. The tube 27 is vertically adjustable; its lower part accommodates an annular air nozzle (28, Fig. 4 not shown). Water rises up the tube 27 into the housing and passes out through three radial tubes as at 39b, each of which also has an air collecting chamber as at 36b discharged by a conduit and valve 37b, 38b. The air flow is adjusted to balance the amount discharged by the valves, or the valves may be controlled automatically by floats. Should so much air collect in the housing that the apparatus starts to rise to the surface the air discharge flaps at 5 are opened by a weight 47. The apparatus is moored with the lower end of the tube 27 2-3 metres from the bottom.
