Abstract

1450077 Dishwashing machines GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 31 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 60203/73 Heading A4F In a dishwashing machine having a side door 38 and dish racks 18, 20, 22 mounted for movement at least partially out of the washing chamber, there is provided a spray pipe 98 having upper and lower spray openings 126, 128 providing generally oppositely directed spray producing opposite tilting moments on the spray pipe 98, which is mounted for generally vertical telescoping movement relative to a stand pipe 92, in response to the delivery of pressurized washing liquid to the pipes, and a seal is operative to reduce leakage between the pipes 92, 98. As illustrated the seal comprises sealing surfaces 134, 136 respectively on a hub 130 on the pipe 98 and the end-wall 132 of the pipe 92. The opening 128 is made larger than the opening 126 so that the turning moments exerted on the pipe 98 by the two jets discharged from the openings counterbalance to avoid tilting of the pipe 98 relatively to the pipe 92 and breaking of the seal. The pipes 92, 98 rotate with a spraying arm 96 of the reaction type having a star wheel 114 rotated by an indexing roller 116, and the pipe 98 may extend above or to just beneath the upper basket 22.
