Abstract

1449907 Draw-texturing apparatus, guides, false-twisting TEIJIN Ltd 4 Oct 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 46454/73 Headings DID and D1F A draw-texturing apparatus comprises a supply roller 3 supplying an undrawn yarn Y, a draw-false-twisting unit 1 comprising a first heater 4, a false-twisting means 5, a first delivery roller 6 to draw the yarn and a second heater 7, and a second delivery roller 8 advancing the yarn to take-up means 11, and is characterised in that the unit 1 extends through and beyond an intermediate floor Fl, package supply means 9 being located on the floor F1 opposite the upper portion of the unit 1, a first operational floor Fa being formed between the package supply means 9 and the upper portion of the unit 1, and yarn take-up means 11 being placed on the apparatus base floor Fo opposite the lower portion of the unit 1, a second operational floor F2 having yarn passages underneath being formed between the lower portion of the unit 1 and .the take-up means 11. The arrangement is such as to facilitate threading-up of the apparatus by virtue of the fact that separate operators may service the upper and lower portions of the apparatus. The package supply means 9 may be a stationary creel or may be in the form of creel trucks which are constrained in tracks on the intermediate floor F1. The first heater 4 is preferably a contact type heater and the second heater 7 a non- contact-type heater e.g. a block having a U- shaped channel which forms one face of a heating pipe. The false-twist is preferably effected by a false-twist spindle with a transverse pin, a guide being situated downstream thereof to ensure satisfactory reverse twist of the constituent filaments of the yarn. A thread breakage detector 58 is preferably situated downstream of the second delivery roller 8 and operates to stop the supply rollers 3 and cut the yarn Y upstream of the rollers 3. The drive for the apparatus is arranged to be operated at a reduced speed for threading-up and for the normal operational speed to be attained gradually. The draw-texturing process may be sequential or simultaneous. Threading-up the heater. To ensure that the undrawn yarn Y is not brought abruptly into contact with the heater during start-up of the apparatus a system of guides is provided, one guide 17 being located at the top of the heater 4a and a second guide 28 being located at the bottom of the heater. The guides include cam surfaces and followers, which followers are interconnected by a rod 21 extending the length of the heater. The rod 21 is movable vertically by means of a lever 30 whereby the cams are caused to pivot in a sequence such that the portion of yarn adjacent the top of the heater is first brought close to the heater, then in contact therewith and then the portion of yarn adjacent the bottom of the heater is brought into contact therewith. The guide 17 is preferably in the form of a plate having a notch in one edge, for engaging the yarn, and. a curved edge adjacent the notched edge to ensure location of the yarn in the notch. The guide 28 is preferably in the form of a bent rod having a yarn engaging depression. Sound-proofing. The false-twist spindle and its associated drive motor are preferably housed in a sound-proofing enclosure which extends the length of the apparatus and has pivoted sections adjacent each false-twist spindle. Cooling air may be supplied to the enclosure and oil mists are evacuated from the enclosure.
