Abstract

1449829 Walking mechanisms L JOHNSON 4 Sept 1973 41426/73 Heading B7H [Also in Divisions B8 and F1] A device for displaceably supporting a load comprises elastic elements 6, 8 disposed between the load and a support surface and each comprising a channel 10 or 12 connected to means supplying pressure fluid thereto and a body portion disposed between the channel and the load or the support surface, the channels being alternately expanded so as to cause alternate elements 6 or 8 to support the load for displacement by elastic shear of the respective body portions, the other elements being expanded when the loaded elements reach a predetermined deformation, the unloaded elements then resuming their non-deformed positions. In Fig. 1, the load is displaced by the application of an external force. In Fig. 3, channels 24, 28 positioned between elements 30, 32 are operative to deform the elements. The elements may be secured to either the load or the support surface.
