Abstract

1449773 Aerials RAYTHEON CO 11 June 1974 [2 July 1973] 25891/74 Heading H4A [Also in Division G2] An arrangement for forming or focusing a beam of wave-propagated energy comprises a mirror 43 having a concave reflecting surface and a mirror 41 having a convex reflecting surface facing the concave surface, both mirrors being generated by rotating an arc about an axis, the focal points of both arcs lying on that axis so that they generate a common focal curve, i.e. they are confocal and the reflecting surfaces diverging from a point of closest proximity to at least one radiating aperture, neither surface having a focal point or curve in the space between them. A source 45 or a sensor of the wave-propagated energy is located in the space at the point of closest proximity. Several embodiments are illustrated. In one, a similarly generated surface reflective on both sides is located between the other two reflectors, all three being confocal. The axis of rotation may be parallel to, as shown, or inclined to, e.g. at 90 degrees, see Fig. 2 (not shown), the axis of symmetry, and the arcs may be parabolas or hyperbolas.
