Abstract

1449661 Planting and knotting hairs in a material; needles KANEGAFUCHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO Ltd and Y MATSUMURA 24 Aug 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 40331/73 Headings DIG and D1R A needle having two hooks, one of which may be covered by a latch 12, plunges through a backing material 5 and aligned holes in two plates 6a, 6b into a supply of hair or other filaments 10 held between two plates 8, 9 and withdraws a loop of hair through the material 5. The material and both plates 6a, 6b move slightly, and the needle then plunges through the material again, hooks the lower portion of hair and withdraws it through the material and pulls it up through the loop of hair to form a knot. Short hairs free themselves from the hook, long hairs are pulled aside from it by an arm (20, Fig. 10 not shown). The two plates 6a, 6b assist in holding out the hair for the needle to hook on its second descent.
