Abstract

1449401 Mass colouration of polyesters IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Dec 1974 [11 Jan 1974] 01344/74 Heading C3R [Also in Division C4] Polyesters are coloured by incorporation of a modified copper phthalocyamine of the formula wherein CuPc is a copper phthalocyanine radical, R is an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, aryl or C 1-4 alkoxyaralkyl radical which can be substituted by Br, Cl, -NHCOX or -NHSO 2 X where X is a C 1-4 alkyl or an aryl radical, provided that where R is alkyl, aralkyl or C 1-4 alkoxyaralkyl, the alkyl chain may only be branched at the B or P position, Y is an alkali metal atom, RNH 3 or H and lies between 1 and (4-m) inclusive and m is a positive number between 0 and 1 such that the value of n is always at least three times the value of m. The examples describe colouring polyethylene terephthalate with various modified copper phthalocyamines of the above formula.
