1449131 Rolling screw threads UNBRAKO Ltd 24 Sept 1973 [8 July 1972] 32080/72 Heading B3M A die 30 for rolling a thread on a workpiece 31 has a relatively small root radius R 2 between adjacent flanks 38, such that the tip 37 of the rolled thread is not fully formed. In relation to an equilateral triangle with sides A and B (dashed lines) and height H, the thread height D may be 0À61 H. The radius R 2 may be H/12À5. The die may be of planar or cylindrical shape and is suitable for rolling threads on high tensile bolts which are heat treated before rolling, to give good fatigue strength.
