Limbs, artificial.-In appliances of the type in which the relative longitudinal movement of the two parts of a leg locks the knee-joint when the weight of the wearer is placed on the leg, the locking is effected by a convex part f at the bottom of the thigh piece a coming in contact with a rubber pad o at the top of a peg portion b. A sleeve is connected by arms g to the end of the knee bolt h. Screws l pass through the sleeve e into opposite grooves j, m in the portion b, and can abut against a spring n or rubber block k which serve to cushion the longitudinal movement which is limited by screws c moving in slots d. Rotary movement of the portion b is limited by a shoulder i on the portion a abutting against the arms g. The leg may be held in an extended condition or given a limited movement, by means of a thong p secured at one end to the thigh portion a and passing thence through a hole r in the portion b, back through a hole s to a cleat r, which serves to engage one of the knots u<1>, u<2>, u<3> as desired. 'An elastic strap v connected at its upper end to the upper ends of a pair of leather straps x is used to attach the limb to the body.
