Cores, covering by winding.-Tyre fabric is formed of alternate layers of rubber A and oblique cords B, the cords in successive layers crossing each other. The material is built up on a cylindrical drum, endless bands of the required width being cut and subsequently shaped to tyre form. The winding- apparatus shown in Figs. 4 and 5 comprises a drum D (in sections or otherwise) carried on a rotatable spndle E, the cord bobbins H being mounted on a slide G embracing the drum. One end of each cord is attached to a grooved ring d<2> at the end of the drum, and the latter being rotated, the slide G is travelled longitudinally by means of a hand-screw J.
