Abstract
1447928 Cooling reactors COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 2 Oct 1974 [3 Oct 1973] 42767/74 Heading G6C A fast-neutron reactor core 1, Fig. 1, is cooled by liquid sodium 9 in a vessel 4 and impurities in the coolant are removed by a purifier 11 comprising a cold trap immersed completely within the vessel. Details, Fig. 2.-In an embodiment a motorpump 13 sends the liquid sodium through cooling tubes 25 and pipe 28 to a chamber 24a from whence it flows via orifices, e.g. 36 to a cold trap 29 which incorporates a stainless steel wool filter cartridge 30, the purified sodium issuing from pipe 41. A cooling coil 38 is added. Plug 14 is removable whereby the filter may be readily replaced. In another embodiment the pump is not provided, the normal dynamic movement of the sodium being utilized, Fig. 3 (not shown).
