Abstract

1447798 Steam generators WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 21 Nov 1973 53975/73 Heading F4A A steam generator comprises a vertical tubular shell 5 enclosing a bundle of U-tubes 3, with their ends fastened in a tube sheet 7 extending across the lower end of the shell, and forming hot and cold leg portions 23, 25 communicating with respective fluid inlet and outlet chambers 15, 17 formed in a head 9 mounted on the tube sheet, an inlet 33 for admitting water into a steam-generating section of the shell, and a plate 39 extending upwardly from the tube sheet in the hot leg region of the shell to form a separate superheat portion 43, which, at the upper end of the shell is in communication with the steam generating section to receive steam therefrom, and means for guiding it to outlet 45. A wrapper 32 surrounds the tubes to protect the shell from thermal shock. The outlet 45 may be at the lower end of the shell, or, Fig. 3 (not shown), at the upper end, the superheated steam then passing outside the wrapper. A preheater 11 is disposed at the inlet region around the cold leg portion of the tubes.
