1447182 1,3,4 - Thiadiazole - s - triazine derivatives VELSICOL CHEMICAL CORP 8 Jan 1974 00740/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds having the Formula I: wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each independently a C 1-6 alkyl group and R<SP>3</SP> represents an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, haloalkyl, or group wherein each X independently represents a halogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl, haloalkyl, nitro, alkoxy, alkylthio or dialkylamino group and m and n are each independently 0, 1, 2 or 3, are prepared by reacting a thiadiazole substituted urea of Formula II: with aqueous formaldehyde (e.g. 10-40 wt. per cent) followed by an amine of formula R<SP>3</SP>-NH 2 . The urea of Formula II is generally used in the form of a solution or slurry in an organic liquid and cooled to below 35‹ C. before reaction and after addition of all the reactants the mixture is preferably heated to 40-100‹ C. for ¢-8 hours to complete the reaction. The thiadiazole substituted ureas of Formula II are themselves prepared by reaction of the corresponding 2 - amino thiadiazole with R<SP>2</SP>-NCO. Examples prepare the starting materials of Formula II wherein R<SP>1</SP> is i-C 3 H 7 or t-C 4 H 9 and R<SP>2</SP> is CH 3 and numerous compounds of Formula I are prepared or otherwise specified. The compounds of Formula I are herbicides.
