Abstract

1447150 Edge connectors PLESSEY CO Ltd 15 April 1975 [16 April 1974] 16482/74 Heading H2E A p.c.b. edge connecting arrangement comprises insulating housings 6, 7 having spring contacts 9, 10 in cavities 8, said contacts being deformed against contact pads 2, 3, on a doublesided p.c.b. 1, when pin terminals 15, 16 of a back-plane structure 5 are inserted through apertures 13, 14. There are a plurality of contacts 9, 10 arranged side-by-side in the housing and said contacts may be held in position by recesses 11, 12 or may either be positively anchored at one end to the housing or damped at one end between the housing and the p.c.b. The invention may also be used for singlesided (Fig. 2, not shown) and multi-layer p.c.b.'s, in the former case by rivetting only one housing to the p.c.b. The pin terminals may be soldered in plated holes 17 or may be a force fit with a wrapped wing connection 18.
