Abstract

1446594 Coiling helices CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 8 Feb 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 3732/73 Heading B3E [Also in Division F4] Tubing fed by grooved rolls 22 is curved by grooved rolls 24, 26, 28 and deflected into helical form by roll 30 so that if free it would form a helix of given inner diameter with its axis at C-1, as shown at 29, but is fed directly into a former 40 of greater diameter with its axis at C-2, so that the coiled tube grips the former. Rolls 24 and 30 are adjustable to vary the coil diameter and pitch. The coil forming rolls are mounted on a head 18 which can be raised and lowered by legs 20 and is transversed axially of the coil by slider 16. The former may be a previously formed coil, of opposite lay, or may be a set of longitudinally extending rods, e.g. spacer rods laid on a previously formed coil. Each coil may be of more than one start, no more than three runs being coiled simultaneously. Frustoconical coils may be formed.
