Abstract

1446000 Strut-type suspensions SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 7 Nov 1973 [18 Nov 1972] 51721/73 Heading B7D [Also in Division F2] A rolling bearing for accommodating axial thrust loads from a suspension strut of a motor vehicle comprises a sheet metal inner race 2, a sheet metal outer race 1, and an annular series of rolling elements 5 arranged to roll on both bearing races, wherein the inner bearing race comprises a sleeve portion 6 extending in one axial direction beyond the outer race and a portion 13 integral therewith extending with at least a radial component away from the sleeve portion, the outer bearing race having a portion 14 extending radially towards said sleeve portion of the inner bearing race and a portion 20 integral therewith extending with at least a radial component in the other axial direction beyond the inner bearing race to terminate radially outwardly of the portion 13, all the rolling elements being disposed between the portions 13, 14. An annular flange 16 may be provided at one end of the sleeve portion 6, an annular ring seal 17 or disc seal 19 being mounted between the flange and the outer race. Alternatively, the outer race may be retained by an angle ring mounted on the inner race (Fig. 3, not shown). A sealing member 23 may be mounted on the opposite end of the inner race. The bearing is retained on a piston-rod 9 by a ring 11 and nut 12. A spring plate 7 is disposed between the bearing and a shoulder 8 on the piston-rod.
