Abstract

1445799 Reverse osmosis FOREMOSTMcKESSON INC 22 April 1974 [30 April 1973 12 June 1973] 17518/74 Heading B1X Reverse osmosis is used to reduce the mineral content of a pressurised feed water in an apparatus having a water inlet to a reverse osmosis unit with a first outlet for permeate of reduced mineral content to pass to a storage tank from which treated water is dispersed by opening a faucet, the water removed being replenished by treated water followed by flushing of accumulated sediment from the membrane with feed water which passes through the osmosis unit without permeating the membrane and discharges to waste from a second outlet. In Figure 1, water under pressure is fed via line 20 and solenoid-operated valve 22 to a reverse osmosis unit 21. Permeated water is fed from the outlet 24 to a storage tank 10. Withdrawal of water from faucet 11 activates circuits 23 and 27 to open valve 22 to supply water to the osmosis unit. The closing of circuit 27 opens solenoid valve 26 whereby flushing water passes through the osmosis unit and discharges to waste via outlet 25.
