1445562 Differential and change-speed gearing A P ARNOLD 13 July 1973 [2 June 1972] 25756/72 Heading F2D A combined differential and change-speed gear for an automotive vehicle comprises a gear wheel 10 fixed to a drive shaft 11 and in constant mesh with wheels 12, 13 fixed to shafts 14, 15, pinions 33, 34, e.g. hypoid bevel pinions as illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown) freely rotatable on the shaft 11 and meshing with gear rings on one side of the usual crown wheel 20 of the differential gear (not shown) pinions 30, 32 freely rotatable on the shaft 15 and meshing with gear rings 21, 22, on the other side of the crown wheel, a pinion 35 freely rotatable on the shaft 14 and meshing with a gear ring on the same side of the crown wheel as the pinions 33, 34, and clutches (not shown) for selectively connecting the pinions 30, 32, 33, 34 to their respective shafts to provide four forward ratios, and the pinion 35 to the shaft 14 for reverse ratio.
