Abstract
1445381 Solutions of magnesium salts and organic silicon compounds PEROLIN CO Inc 26 July 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 35543/73 Heading C3T [Also in Division C5] An additive composition for inhibiting corrosion and ash deposition in liquid fossil fuel burning equipment consists substantially of, apart from any solvent therefor, of a magnesium source and a silicon source, the sources giving at fuel combustion temperature MgO and SiO 2 respectively where the weight ratio of SiO 2 : MgO is greater than 2 : 1, the magnesium source being magnesium acetate, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulphonate, magnesium naphthenate, magnesium oleate or magnesium octoate and the silicon source a lower alkyl (1-4 carbon atoms) silicate or other organic silicon compound, e.g. silicone polymer. The Mg and Si sources may be used in the form of aqueous solutions, aqueous suspensions, organic suspensions or organic solutions. Organic solvents or suspension media include kerosene, fuel oil, methylated naphthalenes, derivatives thereof, and orthodichlorobenzene. In examples the additive composition used was magnesium sulphonate containing 12 wt. per cent MgO and silicone polymer containing 60 wt. per cent SiO 2 dissolved in a methylnaphthalene fraction (b.p 450-700 C.).
