Abstract

1444834 Planter W SCHMID 30 May 1974 23932/74 Heading A1E A planter comprises a one piece container 102 divided into upper and lower sections by a perforated partition 103 supported peripherally on a ledge 102c and centrally on an open ended tube 124 integral with the bottom 105 of the container. The tube 124 receives the supporting leg 125 of a stand 126. The container is further provided with a window 117 below the level of the partition through which the water may be seen and a filling orifice 133 above the level of the partition, isolated from the upper section and communicating with the lower section by means of a hood 135. Plants are grown in soil placed in the upper section and fed with water from the lower section either by penetration of roots through the perforated partition or by the action of wicks. The open ended tube acts as an overflow outlet limiting the level of fluid by the planter. An intermediate member may be placed between the planter and the stand. The planter may be used for hydroculture in which case a suitable partition, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), may be employed which has prolise perforations and a trough therein. Filling substrate is placed on the partition and fed with nutrient solution by wicks, also that substrate lying in the trough is in direct contact with the nutrient solution ensuring adequate moisture a dsorbtion.
