Abstract

1,144,964. Plant pots. E. D. DELANEY. 13 Feb., 1968 [2 Jan., 1967; 5 Sept., 1967], Nos. 115/67 and 40581/67. Addition to 1,112,153. Heading A1E. A plant pot substantially as described in the parent Specification is further characterized by having a capillary element in the first compartment 11 of the pot above an orifice 18, formed around the tube 28, to intercept direct flow of liquid from the orifice 18 to the soil in the compartment 11. The capillary element comprises a plastics or ceramic material plate 34 mounted on, feet 35 resting upon the bottom wall 14 of the compartment 11, and a wick 37 attached to the underside of the plate 34, and passing around the side of plate 34 or through a tubular extension (38), Fig. 5 (not shown), of the plate 34. One end of the element 37 dips into a well 33 into which liquid flows from the chamber 15 through the orifice 18, and the other end is in the soil. Sand, soil, or other granular or fibrous material may be placed around the plate 34 and/or in the well 33 to assist the capillary flow.
