Abstract

1444822 Equalizer for partial response signals SIEMENS AG 2 Oct 1973 [5 Jan 1973] 45873/73 Heading H4R An equalizer for a transmission system employing partial response signalling, and particularly for removing post pulse distortion from the received signal, has an adder 23 connected between an input a, and an output b with a second adder 25 connected between the output of the adder 23 and a shift register 30, 31, 32, 33, with a connection from the output of one of the shift register stages 30, to the second input of the second adder 25, and further connections between the outputs of the shift register stages via gain controlled amplifier 49, 50, to inputs to the first adder to cancel the post pulse distortion. As described pre-pulse interference is cancelled by the shift register 26, 27, 28, and variable gain amplifiers 45 to 48 in accordance with the Specification 1,444,821. The signal with pre-pulse interference cancelled is applied from adder 23 via second adder 25 to a rectifier, 38, which passes only positive pulses, and amplitude discriminator 38, which responds only to the main pulse and eliminates distortion components occurring at other times.
