Abstract

1444817 Poly(alkylene succinate) surgical articles RHONE-POULENC SA 30 Nov 1973 [1 Dec 1972] 55720/73 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions A5 and D1-D2] An implantable surgical article which is at least partially bioresorbable consists at least partially of a polyester having units where R is linear or branched C 2-6 alkylene. The article may be a suture element, e.g. bristle, single, twisted, stranded, gathered, texturized or lapped filament, tape, tent, or spun fibre; or it may be a prosthesis for replacing, supporting, or assisting in the repair of a human or animal organ and may be a solid-walled tube, a kitted tube, e.g. "T"- or "Y"-tube, a plate, a screw, or a ring; it may be a knotted or woven fabric. The polyester may be in a coating on a non-bioresorbable core, e.g. of poly(ethylene terephthalate or adipate), polyamide, or polypropylene, linen, or silk. Or the polyester may be combined with another bioresorbable material, of the polylactide or polyglycolide type. It may also contain a filler, dyestuff or plasticizer. It may be sterilized, e.g. by irradiation or immersion in ethanol.
