Abstract

1444569 Reel gripper HAGGLUND & SONER AB 30 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972 6 Sept 1973] 55725/73 Heading B8H A reel gripper for suspension from hoisting apparatus for the handling of reels of paper &c. comprises a rod 10 axially movable within a sleeve 3 and having a cone 32 at its lower end to displace fingers 8, pivotally mounted on the sleeve, for engagement with the core of the reel. The sleeve has a support plate 5 which rests on the reel and the rod has a pair of arms 22, 23 pivotally connected thereto at their adjacent ends and pivotally connected to the hoisting apparatus at their renote ends. The arms have cam surfaces 25 which, when the hoisting apparatus is actuated and the arms pivot, bear against the support plate 5 to effect relative axial movement between the rod and the sleeve. The fingers have knife edges (54) Fig. 26 (not shown) to improve their penetration of the reel and a lock (36-49) Fig. 10 (not shown) mounted on the sleeve, interlocks the rod and the sleeve for the removal of the gripper from the reel.
