Abstract

1444507 Cooling refractory linings HATCH ASSOCIATES Ltd 7 Aug 1974 [15 Oct 1973] 34737/74 Heading F4B Refractory linings of furnaces are protected by solid cooling members 35 made of material of high thermal conductivity, such as pure copper, which are designed to conduct sufficient heat to the outside to prevent refractory attack. The outer portions 35a of the cooling members remain outside the furnace and may contain water cooled channels 33, or the outer portions may be cooled by natural convection from solid plates (41), Fig. 5 (not shown), or by fins (51), Fig. 7 (not shown). Refractory walls already eroded may be protected by drilling holes into the lining in the affected area and inserting solid coolers (18) Fig. 3 (not shown).
