Abstract

1382001 Cooling furnace walls HOOGOVENS IJMUIDEN BV 10 Jan 1973 [11 Jan 1972] 1293/73 Addition to 1367328 Heading F4B A shaft furnace has a plurality of cooling systems arranged one above the other each comprising an outer double wall forming a natural circulation evaporative cooling system with a space above the coolant space for the separation of vapour from liquid coolant and a baffle parallel to the outer furnace surface and dividing the coolant space into two parts connected at open and bottom, as claimed in Specification 1,367,328, the cooling systems operations substantially independently. The bosh 2 above the tuyeres 14 of a blast furnace is cooled byadouble wall system 4, the make up water supplied above a baffle 18 in the steam/water space serving to cool the furnace supporting ring 11, and a second double wall system 8 cools the shaft above the ring 11. The upper part of the shaft has known stove coolers 15 or cooling plates. Anchors 25 which may be water cooled, connect the refractory lining to the furnace shell. The supporting ring 11 may be cooled by water circulating in a space 21 bounded by bellows wall 22 and connected to steam/water space of the system cooling the bosh, Fig. 3. Instead of the masonry of the shift being connected to the jacket by anchors, the layers of refractory blocks may be connected by dovetailing parts, or the blocks may have their upper and lower faces sloping downwardly and outwardly so that expansion urges the blocks against the shell.
