Abstract

1444445 Silicone coated waistband JOHNSON & JOHNSON 23 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972] 54469/73 Heading. B2E [Also in Division A3] A waistband, e.g. for use in trousers, pants and skirts, may be prepared from a fabric 10 e.g. woven, non-woven or knitted, having a pattern, e.g. wavy lines 11, dots of an elastomeric silicone compound adhered to one surface thereof, the silicone compound being flexible at temperatures from -30‹F to +250‹F, a Shore A hardness of 20 to 45, a tensile strength of 250-500 psi, a percent elongation of 100 to 500% and a linear shrinkage of less than 2%. Such a product may be prepared by applying to one surface of a base fabric in a pattern, e.g. through hypodermic needles, an elastomeric silicone compound having a viscosity of between 12000 and 25000 centipoises and a tackfree time of less than 40 minutes. Then the compound is gelled, e.g. while the fabric passes over the reach of conveyor, to allow it to seep in and adhere to the permeable portions of the fabric, oven curing the compound at between 90‹F and 185‹F in an atmosphere containing at least 7 grains of water per cubic foot and ageing the cured compound and fabric for at least one hour to remove volatile toxic material from the compound and fabric.
