Abstract

Elastic belts for (under-)garments are produced by knitting non-elastic yarns into a support band, by a method which allows the band to be deformed, and coating it while undeformed with strips of natural latex or synthetic elastomer. The support bands are laid on a conveyor belt, coated with the elastomer and passed through a heated tunnel for drying and vulcanisation, or polymerisation. The band may be sewn on to the unhemmed edge of a garment (or undergarment) by folding it lengthwise so that a strip of the elastomer is arranged on either side of the garment edge.
