Abstract
1444389 Casting ingots ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 18 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 58516/73 Heading B3F A method of casting an ingot comprises filling a mould 17 from below through an opening 18 by applying gas pressure to the space above molten metal contained in a ladle 12, moving the mould laterally so that the opening 18 is closed by a plate 16, and, after the mould has left the plate 16, swinging the mould to a position in which its filling opening 18 faces upwardly, the ingot being discharged from the mould while the latter is in its inverted position. A plurality of moulds may be arranged along a circular path, each mould being pivotable about a transverse shaft (22). During their movement along the said path the moulds co-operate with a guide track (23) which controls their swinging movement about the shaft (22) and is shaped so that there is an interruption in the swinging movement of each mould after it has moved through an angle of just over 90 degrees. The plate 16 may be made of metal or ceramic material and is provided with cooling members to solidify the metal in the bottom of the mould before the mould leaves the plate.
