Abstract
1444273 Modulating light PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 July 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36138/73 Heading H4F In an optical image converting relay of the type comprising a variably birefringent electrooptic plate and a photoconductive layer disposed between electrodes, e.g. as in Specification 1,387,712, and wherein a light source is provided to project an image through one electrode on to the photoconductive layer and in use the plate is maintained at or near its Curie temperature, the Curie temperature and the temperature at which the photoconductor exhibits maximum sensitivity to the image light are arranged to be substantially equal. In the preferred embodiment, the electro-optic plate is of KDP and examples are given of four different extents of deuteration thereof give Curie temperatures matched for different photoconductor materials (PbS, ZnS, PbTe, Te, PbSe) and illuminating wavelengths. The latter may be infra-red, visible or ultra-violet.
