Abstract

1443659 Shafts FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 20 June 1974 [5 July 1973] 27318/74 Heading F2U [Also in Divisions F1 and F4] To reduce the length of a drive shaft 54 in a gas turbine engine without reducing its elasticity, the shaft is provided with a sleeve portion 102 within which is threaded a shaft 110 keyed at its free end 106 to a hollow bolt portion 108. The latter carries a nut 124 which urges ceramic turbine rotors 112, 114 together and into engagement with sleeve portion 102 via toothed couplings 119, 122. A further sleeve 104 is brazed within portion 102 to provide a barrier between bearing lubricant flowing through bore 310 and cooling air directed to bore 308.
