Abstract

1443109 Polyester film; laminates TOYO BOSEKI KK [trading as TOYOBO CO Ltd] 26 June 1974 [30 June 1973 (2)] 28354/74 Headings B5B and B5N [Also in Division C3] A film of a polyester block copolymer having a specific gravity 1À003-1À300; Young's modulus (kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>) not more than 1500 (at 20‹ C.); breaking strength (kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>) 150-800 (at 20‹ C.); breaking elongation (per cent) not less than 300 (at 20‹ C.); impact strength (kg.cm./25 Á) not less than 0À5 (at 20‹ C.); oxygen permeability constant (cc.cm./cm.<SP>2</SP> sec. cm. Hg) 0À5 Î 10<SP>-10</SP>-100 Î 10<SP>-10</SP> (at 30‹ C.); clarity (per cent) not less than 80 and haze (per cent) not more than 2; the polyester block copolymer comprising crystalline polyester segments and non-crystalline polymer segments in a weight ratio of 99 : 1 to 10 : 90 and having an average mol. wt. of 10,000 to 100,000, the melting point of a high self-supporting polymer constituted with the monomer components of the crystalline polyester segments alone being 200‹ C. or more and that of the non-crystalline polymer segment being 80‹ C. or less, is prepared by melt extruding a polyester block copolymer at cooling the film formed to 40-120‹ C. The film may also contain 0À01-5% by wt. of oxides or salts of metals of Group IIA, IIIA, IVA and IVB having a particle size of 0À1-10 Á. Suitable crystalline polyester segments are constituted with terephthalic acid or its mixture with isophthalic acid and ethylene glycol or tetramethylene glycol and suitable non-crystalline polymer segments are constituted with polyethylene glycol or polytetramethylene glycol. Laminates are formed between the above block copolymers and polyethylene terephthalate using a mixture of a polyester copolymer and an isocyanate as an adhesive, a nip pressure of 5 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and a temperature of 90-5‹ C.
