Abstract

1443079 Feeding to conveyers BAKER PERKINS HOLDINGS Ltd 10 March 1975 [11 March 1974] 10813/74 Heading B8A Conveyer apparatus comprises a main chain conveyer 13 having equally spaced lugs 11 for advancing articles towards a packaging machine, a subsidiary conveyer 14 having lugs 12 for advancing articles towards the packaging machine and travelling at the same speed as the main conveyer, a transfer mechanism which feeds laterally of the conveyers at each cycle of the packaging machine individual articles or groups of articles into the paths of the lugs such that each conveyer is supplied with spaced articles or groups of articles, the lugs of at least the main conveyer being retracted during feeding, and a mechanism 28 for diverting articles from the subsidiary conveyer to gaps on the procession of articles to the main conveyer. As shown a plurality of belts 17A-17H feed articles to walking beam conveyers 18A-18H operative to place the articles in groups of four in the paths of the conveyers. Alternatively, a pair of vibrating bowl feeders on opposite sides of the conveyers supply streams of articles to respective pushers supplying single articles to the conveyers. The mechanism 28 may comprise a belt 29 or a paddle wheel or a barrel cam.
