Abstract

1442921 Heat insulated pipe PLIBRICO CO 25 June 1974 [25 July 1973] 28158/74 Heading F2P [Also in Division F4] In a furnace for reheating steel billets or slabs, water-cooled pipes for supporting skid rails are heat-insulated by prefabricated heatinsulating refractory components. Fig. 4 shows precast heat-insulating components 20 and 30 secured around a vertical water-cooled pipe 16 by metal bands 25. The bands are attached to the components by pin means 32 embedded in the components and are fastened together by nuts 45 and bolts 46. The nuts are welded to the ends 27 of the bands and the bolts pass through openings in the ends 28. Access openings 37 to the bolts have been filled with refractory material. Fig. 7 shows a pipe 18 with a skid rail 19 and three precast heat-insulating components 50, 52 and 54. Fig. 10 shows a pipe 18 with a skid rail 19, one precast heat-insulating component 90 and hand-applied heat-insulating material 92. Bolts 102 which anchor the band 56 and component 90 to the pipe are located above the transverse median plane of the pipe.
