1442625 Nitrofuran derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 10 Aug 1973 [14 Aug 1972] 37939/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Compounds of Formula IIId wherein X is sulphur or oxygen and R 5 is hydrogen, phenyl or phenyl mono- or polysubstituted by chlorine, bromine, fluorine, iodine, trifluoromethyl, hydroxy, nitro, benzyloxy, amino, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy or C 1-6 alkylthio or by the group -NHR 7 , -COOR 7 , -CONH 2 , -CONHR 7 , -OCH 2 CH 2 OH or wherein either each of R 7 and R 8 is independently C 1-6 alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted, phenyl, or mono- or polysubstituted phenyl, or R 7 and R 8 together with the nitrogen atom signify a 5- or 6-membered heterocycle containing one or more further hetero atoms selected from oxygen, sulphur and nitrogen, and which is unsubstituted or substituted are obtained by reacting a compound of Formula X or of Formula Xa wherein X is as defined above, and R<SP>1</SP> 7 is C 1-6 alkyl, with a compound of Formula XI wherein R 5 and R<SP>1</SP> 7 are as defined above, or a compound of Formula X with a compound of Formula XIa wherein R 5 and R<SP>1</SP> 7 are as defined above, in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, and hydrolysing the resulting complex. Compounds of Formula IIIe wherein X and R 5 are as defined above and R 9 is -NH.CO.R 10 wherein R 10 is (i) a radical of Formula VII (ii) a radical of Formula VIIa wherein n is an integer from 9 to 18, and Y is the acid radical of a reactive ester, (iii) a radical of Formula VIIb wherein n is as defined above, and R 11 is hydrogen, acetyl or benzoyl, or (iv) a radical of Formula VIIc wherein X and R 5 are as defined above, with the proviso that in this case each of two Xs and each of the two R 5 s in the compound IIIa have the same significance, or R 9 is wherein R 12 is hydrogen or a radical of Formula VIII wherein R 11 is as defined above, or R 9 is wherein R 12 is as defined above, or R 9 is a heterocycle having 5 or 6 ring members, containing one or more hetero atoms selected from sulphur, oxygen and nitrogen, and which is unsubstituted or substituted, or is phenyl, or phenyl mono- or poly-substituted by chlorine, bromine, iodine, fluorine, hydroxy, nitro, amino, trifluoromethyl, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, C 1-6 alkylthio or by a group -NHR 7 , -COOR 7 , -CONH 2 , -CONHR 7 , -OCH 2 CH 2 OH or wherein R 7 and R 8 are as defined above are obtained by reacting a compound of Formula IIId with a compound of Formula XII wherein R 9 <SP>1</SP> has the same significance as R 9 , except that R 10 may not signify the radical of Formula VIIc or with 0,0-dicarbazoyl resorcine.
