Abstract

1442495 Multi-disc brakes; discs for disc brakes MESSIER-HISPANO 28 Feb 1974 [19 March 1973] 9191/74 Heading F2E A disc brake comprising a rotor co-operating with a stator, has the rotor and stator each formed by a ring of arcuate sectors 2 having cavities containing graphite friction shoes 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, in which at least a portion of at least one shoe 6<SP>1</SP> of each of the rotor and the stator is formed as a roughening element the roughening elements being distributed in such a way that, when the rotor rotates, the roughening elements rub over the whole surface of the shoes of the rotor and the stator. The roughening elements act to retain a good coefficient of friction between the interacting shoes. The Figures illustrate a single sector 2 which may be of metal or graphite and having on each face cavities defined by rims 3, 4 and 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>. In the cavity formed, on one face defined by the rims 3, 4 there are inserted respectively a shoe 5 in the form of a complete flat cylinder and a shoe 6 shaped with a cut-out part fitting round the periphery of the shoe 5. In the cavity of the other face defined by rims 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>, there are inserted shoes 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP> of the same general shape as shoes 5, 6. The shoe 6<SP>1</SP> comprises a central disc 7 and a concentric ring devided into a plurality of segments 8 which act as a roughening element. A rivet 10 fixes shoes 5, 5<SP>1</SP> to the sector 2 while shoe 6, disc 7, and the segments 8 are assembled by a rivet 9, a common supporting collar 11 and a conical collar 12. The shoes 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, 6 and disc 7 are preferably made of graphite formed at 2800‹ C. and purified while the segments 8 are preferably made of a carbon formed at 1200‹ C. In a disc brake comprising a plurality of rotors and stators roughening elements can be mounted in a plurality of cavities belonging to rotors and/or stators.
