Abstract

144,228. Lawrence, E. G. Feb. 16,1920. Funnels.-A tundish or funnel of the kind having a spout movable to project from or be disposed within the funnel portion comprises a funnel portion 1, a seating 5 secured thereto, a spout 9 slidably mounted in the seating, and enlargements 10, 11 at or near the ends of the spout to engage with the seating and prevent the spout from being entirely detached from the funnel portion. The seating 5 consists of a ring soldered to the funnel portion and provided with a recess having a conical base 7, downwardly inclined from the centre, this base fitting the under surface of the enlargement 10. This consists of a ring soldered to the top of the spout 9 which abuts against a shoulder on the ring. A wiregauze strainer 6 is soldered in a recess 13 in the ring 10. The lower end of the spout abuts against a shoulder 14 on a ring constituting the enlargement 11 and is soldered thereto, and this ring has a conical screw-threaded surface 15 adapted to form a quick engagement with a screw thread 8 on the internal surface of the seating 5 to retain the spout in its withdrawn position. The funnel portion may have an inturned lip 3 secured by spinning on its edge 4.
