Abstract

1442188 Pipe end protectors FLIMON INDUSTRIE SA 23 Oct 1973 [23 Nov 1972 4 April 1973] 49173/73 Heading B8C An end-piece for protecting the chamfered end of a tubular element 1 comprises a peripheral skirt 2 joined to an inwardly extending flange 3 by a portion 6 of increased thickness adjacent the chamfer 7, the flange being adapted to protect the internal surface of the terminal section of the element against accidental damage by a lifting hook. At the inside of the flange 3 there may be an oblique lip 11 with cuts 12 for deformation by a lifting hook plate. An exterior rib 14 and/or an internal slot (15), Fig. 8 (not shown), may be located at the join between the lip and flange. The extremity of the lip may be of increased thickness. In a modification the flange may be straight, and have weakened triangular portions at the inner periphery, and an internal annular return and/or external heel. The inside of the skirt may taper inwardly away from the flange and have circumferential or longitudinal ribs. Heat shrinkable bands may be positioned in grooves around the skirt, or the skirt may comprise a pair of superimposed cylinders, one of which is heat shrinkable. Reinforcement rings may be wholly or partially embedded in portion 6. A pull ring may be connected to a shearing wire embedded in the end piece adjacent the surface or may be associated with a groove. The end piece may be of synthetic plastics.
