Abstract

1319667 Pipe joints PLASTICUM NV 26 Nov 1970 [27 Nov 1969] 56347/70 Heading F2G A hose 3 is engaged over a tubular portion of a connector 1 by a divided sleeve 2 having an external taper, the divided sleeve being compressed by a sleeve 4 provided internally with a complementary taper, the external surface of the sleeve 4 being cylindrical to receive a reinforcing metal ring 5. As described, the sleeves 2 and 4 have interengaging screwthreads, the threads on the divided sleeve 2 being provided on three circumferentially spaced axially extending lands (13) (Fig. 3, not shown). To assist in tightening by chain tongs the sleeve 4 is provided with a sprocket 15. The tubular connector 1 and divided sleeve 2 may have co-operating grooves and ridges 6, 7; the ridges optionally being provided with annular ribs (8), (9), (Fig. 2, not shown). The division (10) (Fig. 2), of the divided sleeve 2 may take a V-shaped course to prevent "driving up" of the sleeve 2 upon tightening. An annular rib 16 within sleeve 4 prevents damage to the hose. The coupling is conveniently made (e.g. by casting) from synthetic material such as nylon, the metal ring 5 ensuring sufficient radial strength of sleeve 4.
