Abstract

1442145 Defrosting NANIWA SANGYO CO Ltd 17 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 58340/73 Heading F4H In a domestic refrigerator including an evaporator having a cooling coil and fins attached to the cooling coil, defrosting apparatus comprises at least three sensing devices 14A, 14B, 14C arranged at the inlet, the coldest operational point and the outlet respectively of the evaporator. The sensing device 14B is arranged at a predetermined location on the cooling coil wherein in use of the refrigerator under abnormal ambient conditions (30-35‹ C.) the temperature of the refrigerant at said location is lower than the temperature of the refrigerant at the inlet senser 14A. Each sensing device 14 comprises a metal housing 15 containing water 16, a non-conductive plug 17 and an electrode 18; an electric potential being applied between an electrical lead 19 and the housing 15. Due to the difference in resistivity between water and ice, the sensing devices 14 act as switches at 0‹ C. The defrosting apparatus also includes an electric control circuit for interrupting the supply of refrigerant to the evaporator when water in all of the three sensing devices has frozen and maintaining the interruption of the supply of refrigerant until ice in all of the three sensing devices has melted.
