Abstract
1441980 Steam generator SONAQUA Inc 22 Nov 1973 [29 Jan 1973] 54329/73 Heading F4A A steam generator 10 comprises a rotor 16 mounted in a stationary housing 11, the rotor and housing defining a chamber comprising many passageways extending in different directions, at least one passageway being closed at one end, and at least one passageway having a radial component, so that when water is delivered to the chamber and the rotor is rotated water is flung outwards by centrifugal force, causing a vacuum in the or each closed passageway, which pulls the water back, giving rise to a series of shock waves ("water hammer") the energy of which raises the temperature of the water and produces steam. Water enters the housing at 17 and follows arrows 56-61 and 67-69 through the passageways of the chamber and arrows 62-66 through annular chambers 50-52 formed by coaxial tubes 33,37, 43 in superstructure 30, steam being removed through tube 37 (arrow 70) and water returning (arrow 71). The passageways are constituted by the upper ends of frusto-conical passages 21 in the rotor and by the communicating upper ends of the annular chambers 51, 52, or, Fig. 5, (not shown) by vertical paraxial passages (98) in the rotor.
