Abstract

1441656 Electrical connector with coding members BUNKER RAMO CORP 27 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 30590/73 Hading H2E An electrical connector comprising a housing 8 with contact chambers 9, each having a locking surface 11a in front of which a locking nose 6 integral with an elongated resilient plastic coding member 1 inserted into chamber 9 from the rear, projects. The contact members may be integral with the housing. The coding member 1 has a solid cylindrical end section 2, about 1/3 of the length, and a part 3 divided by a slit 4 of rectangular cross-section into two arms 3a bearing nose 6 and 3b bearing at its middle longitudinal fin 7, stretching from the joint of 2 and 3 to flange 5b. Flange 5a locks in front of stop surface 12a which is parallel to surface 6a, which is perpendicular to the surface of arm 3a, the distance b being greater than distance a. The arms 3a, 3b face slit 4 with flat surfaces perpendicular to flat laterial surfaces and their outside surfaces are cylindrical. Shoulder 10 acts as a stop for fin 7 and acts to lock in contacts. Coding member 1 is pushed in direction A into chamber 9 with arms 3a and 3b squeezed together, until fin 7 touches 10. Members 1 can be removed by a tool introduced into recess 11 so that 3a and 3b are pressed together, or 5a and 5b can be grasped from the rear. The slit may be omitted if the material is sufficiently elastic.
