Abstract

1441528 Functional fluids LABOFINA SA 4 April 1974 [13 July 1973] 15089/74 Heading. C5F [Also in Division C2] A functional fluid comprises a mixture of (A) an orthophosphoric acid ester O=P#(OR) 3 and (B) a transesterification produce between a dihydroxy aromatic compound and a phosphorus compound selected from the phosphorous acid ester P# (OR) 3 and the phosphoric acid ester O=P#(OR) 3 ; wherein R is alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl. Functional fluids suitable for use as lubricants or hydraulic fluids comprise 1-50 wt. per cent of the transesterification product based upon the orthophosphoric acid ester. The components B used in examples are prepared by reacting 2 moles of triphenyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate, tri(m-ethylphenyl)phosphate, triphenyl phosphite, or tri(nonylphenyl)- phosphite with 1 mole of 2,2<SP>1</SP>-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, hydroquinone, bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)methane, resorcinol or pyrocatechol. The components A used in examples are tricresyl phosphate, tri(m-ethylphenyl)phosphate, diphenyl-m-ethylphenyl phosphate, diphenylcresylphosphate, and phenyl-dioctyl phosphate. A hydraulic fluid prepared also comprises 10% of chlorinated biphenyl, 5% di-tert-butylparacresol, and 0À1% calcium petroleumsulphonate.
