Abstract
1441347 Injection moulding SCHLOEMANN-SIEMAG AG 6 Aug 1974 [25 Aug 1973] 34524/74 Heading B5A In a method of making two-layer moulded articles, unfoamed synthetic material and synthetic material containing a blowing agent are injected simultaneously through separate injection passages one of which surrounds the other. In one example (Fig. 1) a sleeve 5 and nozzle needle 6 are withdrawn from the position shown so that foamable material is injected through a channel 8 and annular space 8 into a mould 3 at slightly lower speed than unfoamed material is being injected through a channel 11 and an annular space 9. The two materials may be injected at the same speed and at equal or different volumetric rates. The moulded article comprises a foamed core (13) and an unfoamed skin (12) at the side of the mould opposite the sprue channel 2. In another example (Figs. 5-8, not shown) the non-foamable material is injected through the annular passage and the foamable material is injected through the central passage. In this case the moulded article has a layer of unfoamed material adjacent the sprue channel and this layer may be completed by injecting further unfoamable material after stopping the flow of foamable material.
